Tony Adams Race
Starting from Brightlingsea Batemans Tower, a 7 mile marathon race finishing at the red light ship at the Hythe. To put this into context, the other annual boat race "Oxford vs Cambridge" on the Thames is just 4.2 miles 😀. Our route takes us past Alresford, Wivenhoe, Rowhedge and into Colchester Hythe. With an 11am start, this years conditions were interesting to say the least. A strong westerly wind across a rising tide made for some larger waves. Rowers battled hard against a strong head wind and choppy water for one hour thirty minute to reach the finish line. Once all competitors had finished the exhausted rowers made a steady row back up stream to Rowhedge where tea, coffee and cake was consumed to replace energy. Some even grabbed a beer from the local pub! We achieved a brilliant 2nd & 7th place for our two crews. As usual another great day and one to talk about for a while. Want to try rowing?
